Students wanting to minor in Chinese are encouraged and expected to spend one semester or one full year abroad to study the language in mainland China, Taiwan or Hong Kong. Wooster Summer in Yunnan Program offers a seven-week intensive language instruction to all those hoping to take Chinese at beginning, intermediate, or advanced levels, plus travels to Beijing, Xi’an, Yan’an, Kunming, Guilin, Lijiang, and Shangri-la. Other programs that the college endorses include: (1) CET, (2) the Council on International Education Exchange (CIEE) program in Beijing (at Peking University) and Shanghai (at East China Normal University). Students interested in these or other off-campus opportunities to study Chinese should check with the program director or with Jessica DuPlaga, coordinator of Off-Campus International Programs Office.

Moreover, if you are interested in opportunities of teaching English in China through such organizations as PGA, you should contact the chair of the Chinese Program and make your intention known.
