Outside of his vast filmography and reputation as a popular film director at Xi’an Film Studio, little is known about this director, except that he was born in Harbin, graduated from the department of performance in China Academy of Theater and Drama. His many film works reflect work-a-day life of the ordinary people struggling to make ends meet because he truly believes there is beauty and nobility in the way they live their lives, the kind of subtle qualities not immediately observable to viewers living outside China.
